The book Jesus as Teacher is the work of Dr. Henry Burton Sharman, and the best way to engage with the material is the way he did: In dialogue with others.

Start with the introductory materials-- including the background on Sharman and how he did his research, followed by the historical and cultural contexts in which Jesus lived. Then go through each section of the Teachings and, as a group, ask: Given Jesus’ context, what did this teaching most likely mean? To help guide you in your dialogue, you can draw on the written and audio Perspectives that accompany each major section of the text.

Explore the Essential Jesus...

…not the Jesus of Christianity, but of Judaism. The Jesus who sought to save his people from destruction at the hands of the Roman Empire by living and teaching the full promise of his people’s great religious tradition.

Unequivocal in his conviction that the greatest commandment is to love-- God, Self, Neighbor and Enemy-- a study of the teachings of Jesus offers critical insights into what is required to lead a fulfilling life, and to create a foundation for a world that works for all.

“Think not that I came to destroy the law or the prophets, but to fulfill.”
